The Tribal Furies

In 2007, Katerina founded The Tribal Furies - an ecclectic fusion bellydance performance ensemble. This group is extraordinary in that it's structure is truly collaborative. Choreography, costume design, and all other internal descisions are shared, thus giving everyone ownership and equal artistic input. The mission of The Tribal Furies is to blend our collective creativity into one unique whole, perfect it, and share this - and our love of the art - with the public.

Stella~ Stella's first encounter with bellydancing was at a local Greek restaurant. She was fascinated by the dance, but didn't think about learning it herself. When the restaurant closed, that ended Stella's connection to bellydance - or so she thought! Some years later, in 1999, Stella came across a flyer for bellydance classes. And the rest is herstory! Dr. Artemis Morris patiently taught the Greco-Egyptian style that Stella so admired. There, she also met some wonderful women, including the Fiery JaneQ, and became a founding member of the Elysian Temple Dancers. Fast forward to another flyer... This one warned that this was "Not your mama's bellydance!" Stella was intrigued! It was Katerina's Tribal Fusion class - and with that, the door to many possibilties has been opened, and an old dance has been reborn! Stella is euphoric to be a member of The Tribal Furies. Love you both! (We love you, too! xoxox)

Jane~ Jane began bellydancing in 1999 with Artemis Morris of New Haven, who taught her the love of the dance. She was also a founding member of the ELYSIAN TEMPLE DANCERS. She had been teaching beginner belly dance classes for 2 years, and as it happened Katerina began teaching a tribal fusion class at the same studio. Jane attended - and she immediately fell in love with the style from the first beat! Jane is now proud to be a member of the TRIBAL FURIES. Thanks Katerina, for bringing me over to the other side of Belly Dance! (You're welcome, Jane! xoxox)

Katerina~ Katerina began teaching out of frustration with not being able to find other like-minded dancers with which to perform. She decided that teaching would help her to find other "partners in crime," or simply enable her to create them, if it came to that! Much to her delight, Stella and Jane were only all too willing and eager to join her! Of course, it didn't hurt one bit that they were already both beautiful and talented dancers! Katerina is honored and grateful to dance in the company of such wonderful and hillarious women and cohorts! I love you both!!
